The process of regulation and approval has been substantially liberalized for the purpose. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has prescribed the administrative and compliance aspects of FDI. FDI can be broadly divided into the two main categories: Investment under Automatic Route and the Investment through Prior Approval of Government. The Foreign direct investment scheme and strategy depends on the respective FDI norms and policies of the Government of India (GoI).
